One of our house rules is that bathroom doors should always be closed.
They should be closed when someone is using the bathroom, for obvious reasons. But they should also be closed when empty, because George happens to love water. Particularly toilet water. He likes to splash his hands in it. He likes to tear off pieces of toilet paper – sometimes miles of it and sometimes tiny scraps- and throw it in the water. No, I don’t actually allow this behavior, but sometimes while I’m getting ready for the day, he hangs out with me and makes his move for the TP while I am in the middle of applying mascara or using a burning hot device on my hair.
Therefore, no open bathroom doors. Sounds simple, right? The older kids get it. The younger kids don’t.
So earlier today, I was making plans for a science experiment I’ll be doing for our homeschool co-op. Here is how things played out.
George: (Pit pat pit pat pit pat… in other words, the sound of George’s little feet running)
Princess: Mommy! George is in the Baff-Room!
Me: (going into the bathroom and removing George) Princess, you need to shut the door when you come into the bathroom.
Princess: OK, Mommy
So I go back to working on my science plans, and bring George with me. Five minutes later…
George: (Pit pat pit pat pit pat… Splash… Splatter)
Me: Gameboy, can you do me a favor and get George out of the bathroom?
Gameboy: Sure, Mom.
Me: Princess, we always shut the bathr–
Gameboy: MOM! HE’S IN THE TOILET!
Me: (Leaping out of the chair and running to the bathroom) IN the toilet???
Gameboy: Yeah!
Me: (Gasp!) George, no! We don’t… (Giggle) No toilet! (Starting to pick up George.)
Bubbles: Ha, ha! Mom, you have to take a picture!
Me: You’re right, run and get me the camera.
Bubbles: Okay! (Quickly returns with camera)
Me: (Snap)

Polly: I sure hope Princess flushed.
Me: Ugghh… Me too.
The bad news is, Princess did not flush. The good news is, she only went #1.
I’m thinking of putting alarms on the bathroom doors that only stop beeping when the door is shut. Say, do you think George may be a hydro-maniac?
How hilarious!!! I am so thankful that you posted this pictures. It cracked Scott and me up! Even when mischievious he is adorable!!!
Mom I really love the Blog.
from Bubbles.
That is hysterical!! Good job posting that lively event! You were great to go get the camera!! And yes… it looks like you may have a hydro-maniac on your hands!! Cute!
This is hysterical! I am sure it wasn’t funny to clean up, but I am sure glad you shared! She is even adorable sitting in a toilet.
We are laughing so hard!! We love you George! That is a picture that will ahunt him for many years to come. We love it!!
Whew… I figured everyone would either 1) nominate me for bad mother of the year, or 2) get a good laugh! I’m glad you all saw the humor!
Too funny, George! I’ve found my kids in some funny places, but the toilet is a new one for me! I’ve heard that urine is sterile anyway!
