This year I did my project on George Washington. I chose George Washington because he was my favorite president, and most people don’t know the story about when he was a general in the French and Indian War. Here are some pictures and a video:

My essay about George Washington:

I chose to read about George Washington because he is my favorite president. He was the first president of the United States, and he was a great general in the French and Indian War and also the Revolutionary War. He was the greatest leader of the United States.

George Washington was born on February 11, 1732. He lived at Mount Vernon most of his life.

George had two older brothers. One was named Lawrence and the other Austin, after his father Augustine. George Liked Lawrence better because he was a general, and George wanted to be a general when he grew up. Lawrence introduced George to Lord Fairfax, the richest man in Virgina. Lord Fairfax liked George the day he met him at Mount Vernon, and very soon he hired him to survey his many miles of land. George did a good job on surveying, so he became a surveyor for the whole county.

The French and Indian War got started because the French were staying in the English territory. The English general sent George Washington to tell the French to move off their territory. The French refused to move, and the war began. The English were also fighting the Indians because the Indians didn’t want them in America. George Washington became a general in that war. I’m going to tell you a story about how God protected George Washington in the French and Indian War.

The British were marching around and fighting, and the Indians didn’t think it was very smart of them to do that out in the open, because they made perfect targets. They did not break their lines, even when the braves shot at them from in trees and under bushes in the forest. They killed over 1000 men. Then the chief told the to braves start shooting at the generals. They shot all but one, which was George Washington. The chief told them to all shoot at Washington. Two times they shot his horse that was under him, and two times he jumped on another officer’s horse who had been shot. The chief realized that something was guarding Washington. The chief thought it was something he called, “The Great Spirit.” So he told his braves to stop firing at Washington. When they had stopped firing, one brave said he had shot 17 bullets at him but could not kill him. He believed that this man was not to be killed by a bullet.

Later that day, when they were bandaging the wounded, Washington noticed a hole in his coat. It was from a bullet. He rolled up his sleeve and looked under the hole but there was no bullet mark there. He took off his coat and found three more bullet holes, where bullets had gone through but had stopped before they had reached his body.

A few days later, Washington heard a rumor that he had been killed, and he wrote his brother saying that he was still alive. In the letter, he said that he was under the protection of Providence. George Washington believed that he was under the protection of God for a purpose. He believed that God has a reason for everything, and that’s why God was protecting him in the French and Indian War.

The War for Independence started in 1754. Washington was a general. The Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4, 1777. The war ended in 1783. George Washington became president when he came home from the War for Independence. He built the White House, but he did not live in it. He died on December 14, 1799. Soon after, someone said he was first in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen. That is what he I think he deserved.

A post by Sweet Pea AND Gameboy, with a little organizational editing from Mom.

Today Mom gave Sweet Pea, Bubbles and me a school assignment. We had to come up with an acrostic to help us remember the ten plagues of Egypt in the Bible, in order. This is what we came up with:

Baby Frogs Like Funny Dogs. Baby Hogs Like Daddy’s Dogs.

We thought it was funny because our dad is allergic to dogs! :-)    The letters help us remember:

  1. Blood (the water)
  2. Frogs
  3. Lice
  4. Flies
  5. Disease
  6. Boils
  7. Hail
  8. Locusts
  9. Darkness
  10. Death (of firstborns)

You can read more about the ten plagues in the book of Exodus, in the Bible.

One day we went to the sand dunes. At first, it looked like we were walking to the beach. Then when we got to the top, I saw that everything was sand and catcti for miles! The sand dunes were really cool. On the top of the sand it was dry but on the bottom it was wet. They looked like pyramids.

It was really windy, and we decided to fly our kite. It was funny when Dad was flying the kite. The wind was so strong it ripped the kite from the string and the kite flew off and almost hit someone.

When we left I covered a cactus with some sand. This is me building a sand castle.

Our trip to the sand dunes was some of the most fun I ever had.

My mom wanted me to write about the most interesting thing I learned this week.

The world wide flood was not just a calm little flood that could happen today. About 20 years into building the ark Noah and his wife had sons. First born was Shem, next came  Japheth, and finally came Ham.
